The first emission from Andy Stott’s forthcoming Faith In Strangers is thing of subtle restraint, but that doesn’t mean the threat implied in its title is an idle one. “Violence” feels like a thing of psychological horror that’s all the more gripping for its closeness and intimacy: the hushed female voice, pitch-bent and digitally warped to some chilling tenor; the haunting bass rumbles; the slow-mo beats that lurch out of the gloom somewhere around the track’s midpoint. It won’t just clear a dancefloor, it’ll scare you out onto the street  and that’s probably just how Stott planned it.
