“Outlet” sounds like it was cooked up in a cold water flat in Sheffield sometime in the late ’70s. The rhythm has the same proto-industrial grind as early Throbbing Gristle, chewed through by furious, feral guitars. In reality, the group is from Seattle and the song’s vintage is more recent — it’s a teaser for the forthcoming full-length Swollen. The record is caked over in a similar black gunk: Gabi Page-Fort’s booming Poly Styrene vocals make each song feel like a violent protest, and the chaos that surrounds them only adds to the urgency.

[Swollen will be released by End of Time Records on August 12]
