Frank Midas’s “The River: Part II” could be a lost song from The Modern Age EP — the guitars are tinny and earwormy, and lead singer Midas sings in a deadpan, mildly amused monotone — if it weren’t for Midas’s words, which tumble out in a bookish torrent. You might not be able to picture lines like “All the grizzled bits with mouths and mausoleums, on a fishin trip/ Just hanging out the window like a new autistic” being delivered by anyone other than Aesop Rock, but from Midas’s mouth, it comes off as amiable barstool chatter. The song comes from the LP Fever Dreams, which was produced by Kevin McMahon (Titus Andronicus, Real Estate).

Fever Dreams is available for a limited time exclusively on Bandcamp.
