Dead Dream’s sound will be recognizable to fans of early 4AD or shoegaze — the female voice floating down from the the heavens, the misty shroud of keyboards, the electric guitars so delicate and pearly they almost sound like harpsichords. The Brooklyn trio are avowed fans of the Cocteau Twins and Dead Can Dance, and they channel the sound with authority. “Sleepwalker,” the first track from their forthcoming self-titled EP, moves with a mysterious inner logic, returning again to a troubled hanging chord, one that causes ripples in the song’s calm surface like a pebble dropped in a pond.
