Although we heard Lil Wayne on Nicki Minaj’s new single “Only” yesterday, the long-awaited Tha Carter V was absent from the airwaves. We’d gotten word that it would not be released on its original date, but there was no explanation until late last night. Lil Wayne himself sent out a public service announcement to let his fans know Tha Carter V is still on its way.
His explanation? He had recorded too many songs to fit on a full album and he was unsure of where to start making the cuts. He told the audience, “I’ve been working hard every motherfucking day on this album, and this album mean a whole lot to me… I refuse to cheat [my fans] and give them anything rushed.”
Then, the camera flashed over to Wayne’s computer screen, which wasn’t entirely visible to the viewer, to show a “tentative tracklist” of 31 songs. (And he claimed that some were missing as well.) According to Lil Wayne, if he’d cut too many of the songs, this would have compromised his artistic integrity.
So now Tha Carter V will be released in two parts.
The first part of the album will be released on December 9. The rapper did not disclose a release date for the second half just yet. He promised that it will be worth the wait though, and said, “If you don’t fucking love [the album], then you don’t fucking love love.”
Before the PSA wrapped up, Wayne played about 30 seconds of his new single “Gotti” featuring The LOX. You can watch the announcement and hear “Gotti” in its entirety below.
