Earlier this year, Kim Gordon published Is It My Body? with Sternberg Press. The book was a collection of essays Gordon wrote over the course of a decade, covering a wide variety of topics from art criticism to cross-genre collaboration to prescribed gender roles.

Around the same time, Gordon also mentioned that she would be writing a memoir. Now we have an official release date — Girl in a Band will be released via Harper Collins on February 24, 2015.

The book is described as:

Telling the story of her childhood, her life in art, her move to New York City, her love affairs, her marriage, her relationship with her daughter, and her band, this is a rich and beautifully written memoir. At the heart of the book is the examination of what partnership means—and what happens when it dissolves. An atmospheric look at the New York of the 80s and 90s that gave rise to Sonic Youth, as well as the Alternative revolution in popular music that Sonic Youth helped usher in, paving the way for Nirvana, Hole, Smashing Pumpkins and many other acts. One of the most revered people in modern rock and roll, Kim Gordon is also a highly regarded fashion icon, visual artist, and the source of much fascination.

Apparently Gordon will also address her split from former husband, and Sonic Youth bandmate, Thurston Moore in the book. The couple, who were married for 27 years, decided to separate in 2011 after Moore’s extra-marital affair with editor Eva Prinz was revealed. Sonic Youth has been on hiatus since that time, although they have yet to announce an official breakup.

In addition to her book releases, Gordon keeps on rocking with Body/Head, her experimental noise duo with Bill Nace. They’ll be playing Brooklyn’s Union Pool in November.
