Last night, #23 went home. (Don’t worry, Michael Jordan is cool with the number coming back as well.) Yesterday evening, LeBron James staged his return to the Cleveland Cavaliers after a four year stint in Miami. Although the Cavaliers lost to the New York Knicks with a final score of 95-90, the crowd’s enthusiasm for their star player was extremely apparent.
Prior to the game, Kendrick Lamar kicked off the festivities outside the Quicken Loans Arena. Lamar stars in the NBA’s intro for TNT, and he performed his latest single “i” for all the basketball fans who have been clamoring to see LeBron in a red and gold jersey once again.
As for Lamar, there’s still no word on the follow-up to good kid, m.A.A.d city. It’s doubtful that we’ll see the release of an album before the end of this year. However, music supervisor Scott Vener claims to have heard a new track, possibly titled “King Kunta,” that Lamar played for him while they were both in Pharrell’s studio over the weekend. So, there are definite rumblings that a new LP will eventually arrive.
In the meantime, watch Lamar’s performance at the Coming Home Concert below.
