UPDATE: The NFL has confirmed that Katy Perry will perform at the Super Bowl XLIX halftime show.
It looks like Katy Perry’s rather bizarre appearance last weekend on ESPN’s “College GameDay” was actually an indication that she might have more football-affiliated activities in the works. Billboard is reporting that sources have confirmed the pop star will headline the halftime show for Super Bowl XLIX in 2015, although the NFL has not officially confirmed the line-up yet and declined to comment.
There’s been whispers of a potential Perry performance since August, when it was rumored that she had been shortlisted for the halftime show along with Coldplay and Rihanna. At the same time, there was also suspicion, due to a report from The Wall Street Journal, that the NFL would ask whoever performed to pay them for getting the chance to be on the highest-rated TV event of the year. (This year’s Super Bowl drew 115.3 million viewers, setting a new record.)
Perry addressed this issue on her “College GameDay” appearance:
Indeed. With her 58.1 million Twitter followers, Perry brings along more than enough of her own exposure to the event.
Not that we want to start speculating on her setlist just yet, but do you think that she’ll have corn dogs rain down on the Super Bowl audience?
