Karen O has announced short run of small-scale performances behind her upcoming solo album, Crush Songs, though the average person’s odds of getting in may be right up there with scoring the opportunity to lose to a 9-year-old when Jarvis Cocker judged Pulp karaoke. So far the schedule holds just 10 shows at modest-sized venues in New York, Los Angeles, London and Berlin. To those who get to hear Crush Songs‘ quietly gut-wrenching “Rapt” at Manhattan’s 220-capacity Manderley Bar, I am so jealous of you.
The Yeah Yeah Yeahs frontwoman feels that pain. Here’s her statement to Pitchfork: “I’m very pleased to announce that I’ll be performing Crush Songs to some very intimate audiences. If you’re in the mood for love please come join my crush odyssey at these limited engagements. I apologize in advance that these shows are so few but I guess that makes them all the more special if you can make it SO don’t miss out! LUV KO”
Crush Songs vinyl listening parties will also reportedly take place at people’s homes worldwide on August 27, arranged by Sofar Sounds with RSVPs via O’s website. The album officially arrives on September 9 in the U.S. and a day earlier in the U.K. through Julian Casablancas’s label Cult.
