Since the waning hours of 2014, Kanye West has now unveiled three new songs. All of them have been collaborations. And so far, all of them have been fairly slow, with a muted sonic palette. During an event yesterday in New York involving his new shoe (cross-promotion, you see), the Yeezus rapper and Beck kiss-and-make-upper debuted a studio version of the latest new track, “Wolves.” It features Sia and Vic Mensa and comes billed as the opener for West’s next album. As with the other songs West has released so far this year, Rihanna-led “FourFiveSeconds” and baby ode “Only One” (both with Paul McCartney), “Wolves” is leisurely and spacious. West’s Auto-Tuned vocals recall his melancholy 808s & Heartbreaks work. Chicago’s ascendant Mensa beams in with a slightly sunnier Auto-croon, while Sia finishes it off with a smokier lilt.
