Dancehall star Vybz Kartel, real name Adidja Palmer, was found guilty Thursday in the murder of promoter Clive “Lizard” Williams, which took place back in August of 2011 at Kartel’s Jamaican home.

Following a 65-day trial, the longest-running criminal hearing in the history of Jamaica’s circuit court, a jury handed down its verdict less than two hours after deliberations began. The jury voted 10-1 to find Kartel guilty in Williams’s slaying.

According to the Jamaican Observer, even though there was no body or physical evidence found, the prosecution used circumstantial evidence, voicemails and text messages, to win the case. Palmer is now facing more than 20 years in prison.

Also found guilty were Palmer’s associates, Shawn Campbell, Kahira Jones and Andre St. John. A fourth associate, Shane Williams, received the only non-guilty verdict.

There were also reports of around 200 people, shouting “Free Kartel!,” who broke through the barricades near the supreme court just before the jury started deliberating. With that said, despite being in jail the last three years, Vybz Kartel’s songs continue to be played all over his home country and young Jamaicans still consider him a hero.

Palmer’s lawyers said they will appeal the verdict. Sentencing is scheduled for March 27.
