Of music industry figures who might seem likely to prompt a fit of irrational rage, iLoveMakonnen isn’t one. The rapping and singing Atlanta oddball’s wonderfully woozy iLoveMakonnen EP introduces an ecstatic auteur who’s willing to use his unpolished voice to achieve a level of expressive vulnerability that might embarrass even his mainstream ambassador, Drake. And yet, when Makonnen had New York venue SOB’s going up on Tuesday to his Drizzy-blessed “Tuesday,” a man in the crowd pulled him to the ground and punched him, as video tweeted by Makonnen unfortunately confirms.

Makonnen’s social-media response, though, brimming with the based positivity of influence Lil B, helps drive home why he’s so endearing in the first place. “Says alot about u if u not feeling us,” he wrote, adding, “The hate real but the love realer and stronger” and “All Love here.” After that, he resumed his usual tweeting, unrelated to the incident (which took place during the annual CMJ Music Marathon), ever the love-yourself-first exemplar we saw belting out “Tuesday” in the song’s recent video. Up and up.

Watch a video of what happened Tuesday below, or better yet, scroll down for “Tuesday (Remix).”
