Yesterday, a snippet of a new Eminem track called “Vegas” leaked from his upcoming compilation SHADYXV. In the verse, Eminem appears to address Nicki Minaj’s speech at the BET Awards where Minaj took a subtle dig at Iggy Azalea for not writing her own songs. Then, he proceeds to threaten Azalea with sexual assault. Although the quality of the recording is somewhat muddled, the lyrics appear to be, “Back to basic / Unless you’re Nicki, grab you by the wrist / Let’s ski, so what’s it gon’ be? / Put that shit away, Iggy/ You don’t wanna blow that rape whistle on me.”

Today, Azalea responded to the lyrics via her Twitter account.

And she didn’t stop there.

Earlier this month, the rapper released lyrics about the recent Ray Rice incident, which also included the line, “Bitch I’ll punch Lana Del Rey right in the face twice.” Perfume Genius responded by selling the tee-shirts below at his merch table.

So it certainly seems that while Eminem’s tendency towards inappropriate lyrics, intended for the purpose of shock-value, are not a new tactic, there’s less of a tolerance for them lately; not so much outrage, as a weariness towards this type of behavior.
