On Tuesday, Hudson Mohawke posted a single-word message — “finally” — along with an altered, black-and-white version of the cover art from his recent Chimes EP. Go ahead, look closely. You may spot a few familiar “Where’s Waldo?” faces. The Glasgow producer’s message came after a remix of the gargantuan, Apple-licensed Chimes title track surfaced on Hot 97, adding guest verses credited to Future, Pusha T, French Montana and Travis Scott.
Whether solo or with his now-on-hiatus duo TNGHT — or, more explicitly, when working with Kanye West — the G.O.O.D. Music-affiliated beatmaker born Ross Birchard has always had a hip-hop bent. And lines from the remix (“She took your heart and tried to feed it ya”) have been popping up on online forums for months. The arrival of the remix itself, then, isn’t a surprise so much as an inevitable coronation and mutual co-sign. “Finally.”
Official details are still forthcoming from Warp, but for now you can hear a stream of the radio rip below.
