Godflesh Return With First New Record in 13 Years

Godflesh have finally set a loose release date for A World Lit Only By Fire, their first album since 2001′s Hymns LP. Due out this fall, the record features the core duo of frontman Justin Broadrick (see also: Jesu, Pale Sketcher and countless other side projects) and bassist/programmer GC Green, who started playing shows again in 2009 and recently toured the U.S. for the first time since 1996. Those unwilling to wait for a proper full-length can check out the signature industrial strength sound of “Ringer” below, which is one of four new tracks featured on the Decline and Fall EP. It’s set to hit shops on June 26 through Broadrick’s Avalanche imprint.

“It’d be quite easy to knock out eight to 10 in-character songs and release it as quickly as possible to capitalize on the popularity of the group,” Broadrick told Decibel at the tail end of 2010, “but it would feel entirely wrong. If it’s another two years until another Godflesh record, so be it. The most important thing is making a record that stands up with the rest of the back catalogue. I do have this in me again, though”…
