Greetings! Top of the Morning is your daily AM news round-up. We paid attention overnight while you were sleeping and gathered relevant tidbits to share over that first cup of coffee.

First and foremost, congratulations to the Mountain Goats‘ John Darnielle. His debut novel Wolf in a White Van has been nominated for a National Book Award. Mr. Smarty Pants, over there.

Producer Dawaun Parker sat down with Jeff Weiss and MC Nocando for the Shots Fired podcast and talked about the upcoming Dr. Dre album. (The term “upcoming” is being used very liberally here.) When Weiss said that he imagined, “There must be like 300 songs, just…in the chambers,” the producer was quick to step in and correct that number. Parker mentioned that while there might be that many beats, there were definitely not that many songs as Dre was picky about the recording process. Yeah, Parker. We know. At this point, he’s 15 years out from the last album picky, there’s not even a need to make jokes about this anymore. Parker did confirm that the album will no longer be called Detox. Dre thinks it sounds too much like a juice cleanse now. (Oh look, there are more jokes.)

If you were clamoring for a boxed set of 27 live Metallica concerts then have no fear, it will be ready to ship in time for Christmas. The band will be releasing the recordings from all the gigs that they played in 2014, in three batches, until the full year’s worth is available in December. (But c’mon fellas, that means the boxed set doesn’t include your amazing, record-making concert in Antarctica.) You can also vote on which of the four live recordings you’d like to see on vinyl. May there be no end to the marketing schemes in the seeker’s quest to stay relevant.

Alright, this round-up is a quick one today because the Wondering Sound staff has to go back to texting each other some more Lil B emojis.
