After spending a brief, ill-advised stint on the jazz-centric label Verve Records for his 2011 album The Less You Know, the Better, DJ Shadow appears to be on his own imprint for the first time since his formative days in the Quannum Projects collective. The producer marked the occasion by releasing an Soundcloud set that shares its name with Shadow’s new label: Liquid Amber.

“This single/EP serves as the opening salvo in what I hope is a long string of music,” Shadow wrote, “by myself and others, on my new imprint … Both songs were written, programmed, and mixed by myself, and they represent the forward steps I feel I’ve taken as an engineer. The ‘Six Days’ remix was something I asked Machinedrum to knock out as a tour weapon, and he crushed it (naturally), so I felt it deserved a proper release. I’m excited about this music and the new imprint, and I really appreciate everyone’s time and consideration.”

You can stream the record in full down below, or grab its “Ghost Town” track for free here. No word on when we can expect DJ Shadow’s next album, but odds are it won’t happen until at least next year, as he’s busy touring with his longtime friend/collaborator Cut Chemist — the pair will be playing records from Afrika Bambaataa’s personal collection! — starting early next month…
