Looks like Dilated Peoples will have some new music to push on their upcoming trek with Jurassic 5. Like their tour mates, the trio recently released their first single in eight years: the DJ Premier-produced “Good As Gone.” Turns out the boom-bap track was more than a one-off reminder of what made them popular in the first place; on August 12 Rhymesayers will release a full-length record called Directors of Photography, featuring guest appearances by Aloe Blacc, Vince Staples, Gangrene and more.

“I think the statement we made this time around is that the three of us are still here standing making quality hip-hop from our hearts,” DJ Babu explained in a press release. “We never chased trends and we always stayed true to ourselves. Even with the changes in the music industry and the world, we still managed to stay cutting edge, classic and, in many ways, independent.”

“In film, the Director of Photography is the one who’s selecting the shots, framing it,” added Evidence, who shares the group’s rhyme schemes with Rakaa Iriscience. “The same thing with us. We might not be making the beat, but we’re selecting tracks that we want to use, doing the mix, talking with the producer. We’re very much the selectors of everything we do.”
