D’Angelo will be taking Black Messiah to network TV. In 2012, the elusive R&B singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist gave his first televised performance in a dozen years, doing his Voodoo classic “Untitled (How Does It Feel)” and future Black Messiah highlight “Sugah Daddy” at the BET Awards. Now, with his first album in album 15 years finally out in the world, he’s about to take his fabled live show to Saturday Night Live.

D’Angelo and his Black Messiah band the Vanguard will be the musical guests on SNL‘s January 31 episode, according to People (via Stereogum). The host will be longtime character actor J.K. Simmons, who is up for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Whiplash. While D’Angelo’s new album is available now, it’s scheduled to arrive on vinyl on February 10. His last appearance on network TV was on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno in 2000.
