New Pornographers, Destroyer Working on New Albums

“The New Pornographers record is going to come out this year or all hell is going to break loose,” Dan Bejar told Exclaim! this week. “It’s pretty much done.”

As for his role in the record, the Destroyer frontman said, “Lyrically, I’m saying things I don’t recognize as something I would say. Structurally, in the music, it doesn’t sound like chord progressions I would gravitate towards. So pretty elemental stuff.”

Meanwhile, the next Destroyer is veering into a more familiar direction. “I think there was a shift between Kaputt and the records that came before it, but I don’t think it’s as drastic as all that,” Bejar explained. I know there are people who couldn’t stand Destroyer music before that album, so that must mean something, but I think there are traces of that record in lots of other stuff I’ve done.”

The as-yet-untitled effort is being tracked with Destroyer’s touring band and may include a few special guests on “string arrangements” and “electroacoustic shit.” Bejar hopes to have that record out by next spring. In the meantime, here’s a video for “Bye Bye” that dropped late last year…
