Although CBS had initially planned to resume with their original intro for Thursday Night Football this week, the network has apparently had a change of heart. They have announced that they will no longer be using “Run This Town,” although Don Cheadle’s voice over work will still remain on the broadcast.

Earlier this morning, Rihanna tweeted:

And CBS was quick to respond with the following statement from their sports division:

Beginning this Thursday, we will be moving in a different direction with some elements of our Thursday Night Football open. We will be using our newly created Thursday Night Football theme music to open our game broadcast.

Last week’s decision was related to the continued coverage and developments in the Ray Rice scandal, including the disclosure that the NFL had been sent the footage of Rice abusing his then-fiancée and that he had also admitted the truth of the incident to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell as early as June. This contradicted previous claims made by the NFL and Goodell.

It appears as though CBS has decided to continue with a more somber tone, although it’s hard not to note that this new decision came not an hour after Rihanna’s comments.

There’s been no official statement from Rihanna’s camp on the changed cancellation plans, but perhaps she’s somewhere crafting the perfect 140 character response.
