Earlier today Mike Brown‘s funeral was held in St. Louis, Missouri. Thousands of mourners gathered at the Friendly Missionary Baptist Church in a peaceful show of support for the family.

Celebrity musicians continue to offer aid to the community in Ferguson as well. Rapper Common, who has sent video messages to the town’s residents, requested a moment of silence in Mike Brown’s memory during last night’s MTV Video Music Awards.

Musician Cat Power (aka Chan Marshall) played two charity concerts at the Firebird in St. Louis on Sunday afternoon with Nico Turner, the Double and Chan Chan. All donations were sent to St. Stephan’s Episcopal Church in Ferguson.

Marshall asked fellow singer Sky Ferreira to play with her as well, but Ferreira announced via Instagram that she was contractually obligated to another event. She added that she would be contributing the proceeds from her own show to Power’s effort.

Power’s charity concert follows on the heels of Billy Bragg’s surprise show at the Royale in St. Louis last week, in addition to the continued efforts of artists such as J. Cole, Talib Kweli, Lauryn Hill and Killer Mike.
