Cat Power, Coldplay Join Gentle Forces on “Wish I Was Here”

Earlier this year, Zach Braff told Entertainment Weekly the soundtrack for his film Wish I Was Here would include a collaboration by Cat Power and Coldplay. Since then, the Garden State director has shared new original songs by Bon Iver and the Shins from the album, due out July 15 via Columbia. Now comes the the team-up between Chan Marshall and Chris Martin’s crew itself, and the movie soundtrack’s title track is in keeping with the softer, more restrained direction these two have taken recently, whether on Cat Power’s devastating 2013 non-album song “Bully” or, of course, Coldplay’s spectral Ghost Stories.

It’s best to avoid speculation about what Braff-related material might “change your life,” but this atmospheric, piano-based lullaby, with Marshall and Martin singing in long-distance harmony, could leave a few moviegoers heading for the exits a little misty-eyed.
