In case you missed their onslaught of special Britpop programming earlier this year, the BBC has announced a three-disc survey of classic singles and previously unreleased “Evening Sessions” entitled Britpop at the BBC. Due out July 22, the import-only release was curated by DJs Jo Whiley and Steve Lamacq, who promise “a whole array of bands; the miscreants and mavericks who made Britpop what it was” in the compilation’s liner notes.

“For me, this is the week 20 years ago that the musical tectonic plates shifted,” Lamacq said last March, when the station began to celebrate the movement’s twentieth birthday. “On the Tuesday, Oasis played live on Radio 1 for the first time and on the Friday morning we heard the news of Kurt Cobain’s death. It was as if one scene had announced it had arrived, as another began to lose its way. Without Kurt, grunge lost its momentum, while Britpop was building by the week. Blur’s ‘Girls and Boys’ was all over the radio ahead of the release of ‘Parklife’ and Elastica had just had their first hit. But this was the week when you thought ‘music’s coming home’.”

As you can see in the complete tracklisting below, the record’s definition of Britpop is rather loose, with familiar faces like Oasis, Blur and Pulp joined by A-list acts and also-rans that simply happen to be British, from Radiohead and New Order to Cornershop and The Cardigans
