Every year around the time the Academy Awards nominees are announced, the U.K. equivalent of the Grammys hands out its nominations, too. The results for 2015 are something of a mixed bag, highlighted by FKA twigs‘ intense, dancing-driven performance from the nomination ceremony — watch that below.

The leading Brit Awards nominee this year, with five nominations, is Sam Smith, and while his 2014 album In the Lonely Hour was a bit polite for our tastes, to snub him would’ve been to ignore the record’s million-plus sales in Britain and the United States alike. Behind him are the singer/songwriters whose albums joined his among the top three U.K. sellers last year, Ed Sheeran and George Ezra, with four apiece. Rock duo Royal Blood have three nods.

So yeah, the group of top nomination-getters is rather a boy’s club. The only women with multiple nominations were FKA twigs and former U.K. X Factor finalist Ella Henderson, each with two. Among British nominees (as opposed to the international category — more on that in a minute), it was also a delight to see Chvrches, up for Best Breakthrough Act, and Jessie Ware, up for Best British Solo Female. Plus, Charli XCX is nominated for her “Boom Clap” video, though it’s really a shame that’s her only nod.

Among other noteworthy nods, “Uptown Funk!” is going to give it to the Brit Awards. Or at least, the Brit Awards gave something — two nominations, in fact — to the postmodern electro-R&B hit, helmed by Mark Ronson with Bruno Mars on vocals. From U.K. producer Ronson’s new album Uptown Special, the song is currently the U.S. No. 1 for its second straight week atop the Hot 100.

Welcome, too, is Damon Albarn‘s Best British Solo Male nod. As the BBC notes, it’s his first solo nomination. Twenty years ago, the maestro behind Gorillaz and the Good, the Bad and the Queen won four Brit awards with Blur.

As for Smith, he has more nominations this year than anyone but Craig David in 2001 and Robbie Williams in 1999. However, David didn’t actually end up taking home any awards.

The international categories yield nominations for a wide range of bold-faced names from the pop and indie circuits, from Beyoncé, Pharrell and Foo Fighters to Lana Del Rey, St. Vincent and the War on Drugs.

Oh, and of course there’s the ubiquitous Taylor Swift, who along with Sheeran and Smith will be performing at the Brit Awards show, set for February 25.

Watch FKA twigs’ performance of a “Hide”-”Pendulum” medley, both songs from her LP1, below, and scroll down for the full list of nominations.
