Brandon Flowers has revealed a few details about his second solo album, a 2015 release he’s currently recording with rising producer Ariel Rechtshaid (Vampire Weekend, HAIM, Sky Ferreira). In the latest issue of NME, the Killers frontman says Rechtshaid is “taking me out of my comfort zone. Normally I make demos and they’re pretty similar to how the song ends up. but he’ll take a song and be like, ‘I hear this.’ It’s incredible – his palette and his range, what he’s able to say. At first we were butting our heads together, but now we’re hitting it off.”

Flowers released his solo debut Flamingo in 2010. According to the singer, his new effort won’t be as overtly influenced by Las Vegas (see: the cover shot above) and don’t worry — it’s not the sign of a prolonged break from the Killers. “I wanna keep being in this band,” he explained. “I don’t think we’ll get too morbid about it, I think we wanna keep going.”

One thing’s for certain: the band would rather work on new material than beat the dead horse that was last year’s best-of compilation, Direct Hits. In a Daily Star interview, drummer Ronnie Vannucci Jr admitted, “We’d wait another 10 years if [a greatest hits record] was up to us, but it’s a contractual thing. We can fill a CD so it makes good business sense at this time of year. However, it’s not like we’re so pleased with ourselves we want to put it out. It feels like a douchie move.”

Here’s a studio photo Flowers posted last April, which all but confirms he’s taking his time on this one…
