Greetings! Top of the Morning is your daily AM news round-up. We paid attention overnight and gathered relevant tidbits to share over that first cup of coffee.
Bradford Cox of Deerhunter and Atlas Sound was reportedly in a car accident last night in his home state of Georgia. The artist posted a photo to his Instagram account from Marcus Trauma Center in Atlanta’s Grady Memorial Hospital, with the additional caption that he was in a great deal of pain and waiting on a chest X-ray. Luckily, Cox also let us know that his dad was right there beside him. We wish him a speedy recovery.
Mark Kozelek is still up to his old tricks. Stereogum pointed out that Uncut’s review of his recent London show with Sun Kil Moon made a point of mentioning Kozelek’s onstage banter, and guess what? He’s still going on about the War on Drugs and claimed another diss track is on its way. In typical fashion, like so much of this year’s press about Kozelek’s music as opposed to his antics, the review of the show was very positive.
While the Aaliyah biopic was a hot mess, you know that’s not going to stop Lifetime. Next month, they’ll be a new original movie in all of its cringe-worthy glory. Angela Bassett directed the biopic focused on singer Whitney Houston, which stars former America’s Next Top Model contestant Yaya Dacosta. Whitney will air on January 17, 2015 and you can watch the very first trailer over at Buzzfeed.
Just a reminder. Don’t forget to catch Nicki Minaj’s performance tomorrow on Saturday Night Live. (You’ll have to suffer through James Franco, but Nicki is worth it.)
In an interview with BBC Radio 1′s Zane Lowe, Chris Martin mentioned that Coldplay is back in the studio working on what could very well be their last album. (Promise?) Martin said, “It’s our seventh thing, and the way we look at it, it’s like the last Harry Potter book or something like that. Not to say that there might not be another thing one day, but this is the completion of something.” Meanwhile, we really wish that he would be completely specific in regards to not clogging the airwaves with any more Coldplay songs. Can we get a firm confirmation?
Anna Kendrick got to show off her pipes in Pitch Perfect, but this Christmas the actress will tackle the iconic role of Cinderella in Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods. The movie’s soundtrack will be released on December 15, but in the meantime you can hear Kendrick sing Cinderella’s first big solo number “On the Steps of the Palace.”
Now let’s watch Christopher Walken demonstrate his amazing dance moves. More cowbell! Happy Friday.
