Bobby Shmurda just bought himself some time. The fast-rising Brooklyn rapper, whose real name is Ackquille Pollard, faces a felony gun charge over an arrest in June. According to court documents, he appeared at Kings County Supreme Court yesterday, where Judge William Miller continued Shmurda’s bail.
The “Hot N—a” MC has plenty to do before the next hearing in the case, scheduled for January 20, 2015. His debut EP, Shmurda She Wrote, is due out November 10 via Epic Records. The clean version of his hit, titled “Hot Boy,” has climbed to No. 9 — its highest rank yet — on the latest Billboard Hot 100 chart, boosted by a Vine video of Shmurda’s now-signature move, known as the Shmoney Dance. (Representatives for Epic didn’t immediately respond to an email today seeking comment.)
Shmurda was also arrested in Brooklyn earlier this month on a misdemeanor marijuana charge. The status of that case is unclear, but court records now show he was arrested on August 12 in Queens, likewise on a misdemeanor count of marijuana possession. An appearance in Queens Criminal Court is currently on the books for October 16, 2015.
Shmurda posted a video of himself prior to yesterday’s court appearance. “We off to let God do his judgment,” he wrote. Watch the clip below.
