Bad news Blur fans: the 15 new songs they started recording in Hong Kong last year may never come out. That’s because frontman Damon Albarn failed to write lyrics at the time and is worried he may have already moved on from where his head was at back then.

“The annoying thing is,” Albarn told NME, “if I’d been able to write the lyrics there and then about being there, we’d have finished the record. But sometimes, if you can’t do it all at once, it dissipates really and I don’t know what I’d sing about now with that record. There’s some great tunes on there, but it may just be one of those records that never comes out.”

You’re gonna love the other reason the record didn’t get wrapped, too: the weather.

“There was too much commuting between where we were staying and where we were recording and it was a bit too hot,” Albarn explained. “I think that’s why we didn’t get it finished.”

So there you have it — lack of air conditioning may have gotten in the way of the first proper Blur LP in more than a decade. But hey, at least we got this a few years ago…
