MTV announced its annual Video Music Awards nominees today, dishing out eight nods to Beyoncé and seven to Eminem and Iggy Azalea. Meanwhile, the Artist to Watch category is a mixed bag, with the MOR R&B of Sam Smith rounded out by the chest-puffing rap of Schoolboy Q, the alt-pop stylings of Charli XCX and two artists we probably won’t be covering on Wondering Sound anytime soon.

Confirmed performers include Usher and Ariana Grande, and while the show’s host is still TBD, we can say it’ll be happening on Sunday, August 24, at LA’s Forum. The historic venue reopened last January after a $100 million renovation that added 8,000 square feet of new concessions and a 40,000-square-foot outdoor terrace. Since then, it’s hosted such big ticket events as a six-night Eagles residency, Justin Timberlake and Paul Simon, which must have been enough to tear the VMAs from its all-too-brief tenure in Brooklyn.
