If you missed Beyoncé and Jay Z‘s HBO concert special, On the Run, over the weekend, pop’s first couple has shared an ideal catch-up video. Though the early footage from the show, whether a Nancy Sinatra-channeling trailer or a Bonnie and Clyde-themed short film, riffed on outlaw imagery, the clip below instead exults in domestic intimacy. The Destiny’s Child singer and the rapper perform a medley of “Halo,” from her 2008 album I Am… Sasha Fierce, and “Young Forever,” from his 2011 album The Blueprint 3. Meanwhile, footage depicting their family’s special moments plays: marriage, pregnancy, daughter Blue Ivy’s birthday and, most adorably, Jay Z doing push-ups with the duo’s little girl on his back. Is it OK that this massive, phones-lit crowd sing-along is centered around Alphaville’s ’80s synth-pop hit “Forever Young” (reprised on The Blueprint 3 by Mr. Hudson)? As Mr. Carter puts it several times throughout the performance, from their On the Run tour finale earlier this month in Paris: “Yes!”
There’s still no word on a reported Beyoncé-Jay Z collaborative album, but the two clearly know how to pull off a major spectacle together.
