As you can tell from the photo above, Bad History Month aren’t especially interested in decorum. The full title of their new single is actually “The Imaginary Tone of My Own Voice Talking Shit,” and the song itself is a shadowy, downcast number that opens as a Bill Callahan-esque ballad before clouds of distorted guitar roll in and Jeff Meff declares, “I’m trapped.” The band has no interest in taking the direct route: the back half of the song is winningly off-kilter, crowded with noise and full of the kind of melodic left-turns that make for a gloriously disorienting listening experience.
