The free agent status of Azealia Banks can’t seem to stop her from releasing new singles. Fresh off the rubberized bass lines and steel-plated synths of last month’s “Heavy Metal and Reflective” record comes the rapper/singer’s most overtly pop track since “212.” Available via the Banks-endorsed leak below, “Chasing Time” switches gears several times throughout its three-and-a-half minutes but features a crossover-ready chorus that falls in line with Banks’s claim that she kept her best tracks from Interscope.
“I can’t really risk them getting excited about me again,” she told Out earlier this summer. “I kind of want them to think that I’m dead … I haven’t been releasing anything that could potentially be phenomenal … It’s like a relationship with an ex-boyfriend, where you kind of do things to make him go away. Like when you don’t brush your teeth. I’m not going to brush my teeth because I don’t want you to think I’m attractive.”
