Ariel Pink has announced his latest album pom pom, a double LP that includes 17 tracks and nearly 70 minutes of new material. Due out November 18 through 4AD, it signals a return to the solo guise — sans the “Haunted Graffiti” band that’s evolved alongside his songwriting in recent years — Pink started using more than a decade ago.

That said, the singer/multi-instrumentalist shared the following statement in a press release: “Although this is the first ‘solo’ record credited to my name, it is by far the least ‘solo’ record I have ever recorded.”

By that he means such standout tracks as several “demented kiddie tune collaborations” with Kim Fowley, all of which were written in the psych producer’s hospital room while he was battling bladder cancer.

“Death is a juicy topic,” Fowley told the San Diego Reader a few years ago, after claiming he’d already retired from music. “It’s like nudity and drugs. It’s right up there with LOL, cats and puppies. It’s an American tradition, just like Disney and chocolate.”

If you’re still wondering how these two ended up working together, well, there’s your answer. As we await some of their bedside output, have a listen to pom pom’s smooth-talking lead single, “Put Your Number In My Phone”…
