Jupiter, Florida has experienced Nirvana. Previous weeks of FX series American Horror Story: Freak Show brought surreal covers of songs by David Bowie, Fiona Apple and Lana Del Rey, plus soundtrack music from Pere Ubu. Co-creator Ryan Murphy, who also helped start Glee, told an interviewer he’d gotten approval from Frances Bean Cobain, and last night’s episode revealed why.

Evan Peters, whose Freak Show character Jimmy Darling is known as “Lobster Boy” for his claw-like hands, leaned into the microphone to perform Nevermind touchstone “Come as You Are.” Shots of his defiant — and, as is the show’s style, anachronistic — singing onstage are interspersed with scenes of the other characters’ woes. Longtime viewers of the so-called anthology series may recall a past Peters character, season one’s Tate Langdon, also liked Nirvana.
