The sun never rises on Turkish Leather, the second full-length (and first for the felte label) from the Detroit group Ritual Howls. Synths are murky as mist in a graveyard, and frontman Paul Bancell has a marvelously vampiric vocal tone — deep, doomy and ominous. The music throughout Leather creeps and pulses, skeletal and shivering. It’s as gripping as a great horror film, the songs casting long, unnerving shadows, and the latticework of clawlike guitars and groaning synths makes for a delightfully shivery final product.
