Newfoundland’s Family Video specialize in writing wobbly guitar-pop that is winningly earnest and relentlessly tuneful. Their lyrics are plainspoken — straight-ahead confessions of confusion and love delivered in unguarded language, in a voice that sounds nervous and hopeful all at once. “She Reminds Me” is the band’s entire aesthetic in three glorious minutes; it starts wavering and tentative and gets bigger and bolder and more triumphant by sheer force of will, rocketing into a conclusion that is warm and joyous. That mood is sustained throughout — nervous optimism rewarded again and again.
